Applied Arts Museum (Vienna)
Applied Arts Museum (Vienna), THE MAK
(Museum fUr angewandte Kunst) was founded in 1863 On the 7th of March,
after long efforts by Rudolf von Eitelberger and persuasion from his
brother Archduke Rainer, the Emperor Franz Josef finally sanctions an
Imperial and Royal Austrian Museum of Art and Industry. The building,
inspired by the South Kensington Museum (today Victoria and Albert Museum),
was built in 1852. Rudolf von Eitelberger, the first professor for history
at the University of Vienna, is appointed director.
