Feed the sharks (BAHAMAS)

Remember the “Jaws” series?... it took several of us to swim in an open sea for a while after having watched the movie.. what if they told you that you could have a chance to swim and feed one of those feroucious creatures of the sea?

In Walker’s Cay, a small island at the northernmost end of the Abacos, you can swim with sharks while feeding them and if you wish to do so you can even touch them!

We went to a shark-feeding center in Walker’s Cay directed by Dr. Ian Gordon, an oceanographer researcher on sharks. We learnt that we would be feeding bull sharks (a very dangerous shark species) and that if we prevent ourselves from erratic movements, if we dont make sudden movements with our arms ( due to fact that it could be perceived by sharks as a small fish-meal) that we would be safe. What the directors of the these shark-feeding centers say is that these sharks will not harm you because they only see you as a big predator for meal there.

To first attract the bull sharks, you need to allure them with meat to the shallow waters of Walker’s Cay . It is very interesting to see that this feeding process is done in the very shallow waters of the ocean which poses the question “Do sharks come so near to land?!”

And... we feeded them, touched them.... these selective creatures only came fed themselves, circled around harmlessly, it was a beautiful yet dilemmatic sight to see. Were we scared?.. not during the act... the fear comes on afterwards when you say to yourself : What on earth did i do becoming friendly with Jaws?...
