Delta flying (BRASIL)
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Brazil? Surely the famous and colourful Carnaval of Rio de Janeiro. Well let us tell you that the second thing that will come to your mind after having done, will be hang-gliding (flying with delta) over the beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro.
We decided that time had come for us to stop being precautious and rigid in life and be more adventorous and spontaneous.... so what did we do? We hang glided over the glamourous city of Rio de Janeiro.
We contacted a delta flying company which was highly recommended to us and were told that we would have to go to the Tijuca National Park where the jumping platform was located.
After signing a document that basically freed the company from all kind of responsibility in case of a misfortune, we went up the jumping platform several thousand feet high. We arrived to the platform which was called “Piedra Bonita” and started listening to my instructor. It was a very simple explanation because the delta-flight would be done by both of us, the instructor in command of course. In other words, what the instructor meant to say was “Dont be afraid, I have been doing this for such and such years, I am a Professional, just follow me and dont panic” What we had to do was to basically run and jump. After strapping ourselves to the hang glider we ran…..we jumped!
At first, we realized we were not touching the ground, a rush of fear struck us just a few seconds until we looked below and saw the beautiful rainforests of Rio de Janeiro, followed by Ipanema Beach and other beaches, and a bird view of Rio De Janeiro at its most.
The flight was the most serene experiences we ever had, sharing the beautiful scenery accompanied by birds, was unforgettable.
We just couldn’t get enough …. but we started descending and landed in a beach in Rio. This was a memorable experience but too short, so let us tell you that we repeated it many many times.
