Big golden rock (BURMA)Visit the big golden rock and make a wish. They turn out to happen…The Big Golden Rock Pagoda at Kyaik-tyio on the north of Kawthaung is one of Burma’s most respected but again least accessible places of pilgrimage. We intended to visit The Golden Rock, a deferred symbol for the Burmans in which is believed that if you make a wish, it will come true. After a long tiring journey with fellow visitors such as tourists, Burman natives and budhist priests, we arrived to see The Golden Rock, perched alarmingly on a promontory overlooking the valley 4000 feet below. The Golden Rock is a massive boulder completely coated by layers of gold leaf, and is delicately balanced on the very edge of a mountain. It is said this balance is maintained by a hair of Buddha which is inside the pagoda at the top of the rock. After having reached this legend there was no way for us to go without making a wish.... so directly in front of the golden rock is a platform where many worshippers made offerings and prayed. There was candleholders and a row of Buddha statues, silver bowls to cleanse these statues and incense. We were told to get a golden leaf and to make a wish before sticking it to the rock One cannot know if their wish comes true considering the numerous golden layers stuck to the rock, however one realizes that one wish has come true...... a lifetime, unique, mystical and magical experience has become a reality for us.
