Elephant Riding in Jaipur (INDIA)We are used to artists drawing on canvas but in the very popular Elephant Festival in Jaipur, Rajasthan, artists exhibit their skill using elephants as their canvas. The Elephant Festival in Jaipur is celebrated on the day of Holi within the Indian festival of colours around March. On the occasion of Holi, rows of perfectly groomed and goldent glittered glamourous elephants catwalked before us. We were told that particularly female elephants participated in this parade and that the elephant keepers take great care to decorate them. The elephant keepers painted their trunks, foreheads and feet with floral motifs and adorned them from tustk to tail with beautiful trinkets. After their catwalk, we were invited to mount these majestic colourful elephants, and realized that there was no way for person or animal in this festival to steal the show except the elephant itself.
