Sadhu Ashram in India (INDIA)Join an Ashram for a couple of days and learn the philosophy of the Saddhus....Meet a Saddhu and talk to him, it can change completely your perspective towards life.... Saddhus are ascetics who seek God full-time. In their search of God and divine knowledge Saddhus believe that inner strength and the soul experience to attain such awareness pre-requires leaving wordly life and the material world. These dreadlocked wandering ascetics are well know figures in India and live in Rasta-like camps and smoke marijuana. However most of them live in Ashrams, temples set for their spiritual development, each one lead by their own Saddhu gurus. Saddhus reflect their refusal of the material life with their physical apparel too, for they wear nothing but a tiny peace of cloth covering their genitals. Even though they carry money pots in their hands, they are not considered as beggars but holy men, just in need to feed themselves with the money donated to them. And be sure that those money pots are never left empty because it is believed in India, that if a Saddhu passes one day in hunger, without having ate anything, that that day will be the end of the world. These very much respected holy men and their ascetic philosophy have also been an inspiration to the western population too, when taking into consideration that many westerners of various professions such as bankers, businessmen, and other material-based professions come for a while (or for good) to join Saddhus and their lifestyle. In their search of spiritual perfection, many of these have assimilated in full the Saddhu lifestyle and have become Saddhus for good. Once every 3 years Saddhus celebrate the Kumbhmela festival in which the Ganges river is considered to be in its most holiest period. During the festival, the Saddhus cleanse themselves in the water of the Ganges in order to prevent , the end of life to befall humankind. In their pilgrimage to the Ganges, the Saddhus wear flowers all over their naked bodies, and walk through the streets of the city through a crowd full of respect and rejoice.
