Have you ever seen a Traditional Bali dancing performance?...
It is one of the most stylized and mannered dance performances ever seen
in the world. Accompanied by the gamelan orchestra, every step of this
dance is syncronized with the music and even the little gesture of the
face such as a wink of an eye, the raising of an eyebrow and the angle
of a finger or hand has a meaning and signifies something. The centre
of these dances in Bali is Ubud where experts of this dance pass their
arts to very young pupils.
In Ubud you may have a chance to watch shortened performances of this aesthetic dance staged in different venues (Batubalan, Gianyar, Suwung and Kesiman) every night for Western visitors.
We had a chance to watch several of these performances, the only thing that may be said about this dance is: Forget about learning or joining the dance group!, the only thing you will learn is that you have lost quite a bit of your charisma...
