The nomadic people called the Tsaatan or well- known as the reindeer people live in Northern Mongolia, west of the Lake Baikal, base their lives wholly on the reindeer itself.
The reindeers are the main means of transport, load carrier, food provider (milk) of the Tsaatans which could be crippled without the existence of these animals.
However, at times, this reindeer oriented lifeway may be threatened by the reindeer decline in recent years for the Tsaatans who have had reindeer for at least 3000 years . Therefore, it is customary for Shaman of each Tsaatan tribe to periodically perform a ritual in order to pray for the abundance of reindeers.
Tsaatan’s reindeer way of life starts from early ages with children perfectly handling reindeers which makes us pose the question can we ride them as easily?...
We tried... no way... you definitely need a pole on the ground or something that provides balance. Its quite slow and needs years of practice.
