Camping in the Amazon Basin (PERU)

If you want to spend a night in the wild Amazon you must go toIquitos which is Peru’s most easterly city and is on the Amazon. However, one very particular thing about Iquitos is that it is the only city in the world that you cannot reach by road. You can only reach it via air flight passing through the vast jungle right to Iquitos. But our voyage does not finish by reaching Iquitos. From Iquitos you can find boats that take you to the heart of the Amazon River and Jungle in 3 hours and that is where we wanted to spend our night; in the very center of the Amazon.

The village that we reached after our boat ride was a small one with one shop only, so we were very luck to have taken our own food with us. Anyway, to spend the night we were given hammocks especially with fly-nets because of the various insects and flies.

What one must know about spending a night in the Amazon, is DONT EVER SLEEP WITHOUT A FLY-NET because flies here are not as harmless as the ones in your summer house porch.

These flies actually leave their larva under your skin and when you go back home, you may have pregnant in one arm, or leg to thousand of little Amazon flies.

One thing that can be told about a night in the Amazon, it was definitely very wild, primitive but fascinating ..
