Trek with a lama in Cuzco (PERU)Trekking to one of Peru’s historic values Cusco with a lama, again one of Peru’s symbolic animals is something that must not be missed if you really want to breath in the authentic Peru. We did so... and the lama helped us carry our load, became friends with us even admired the view and scenery beside us as if to say “ I have been here for a long time not to appreciate what you are looking at” The lama, although often compared to sheep, have a closer affinity to the camel. Therefore for centuries they have been used in Peru as animals of burden, but also for their flesh and wool. They were used in place of the horse, the ox , the goat and the sheep for they provided men with almost all these animals provided. So we may call lamas as 10 in 1 animals. And now the most important question.... during our trek did they ever get angry and spit on us?... No they didnt, in fact all they did was to endure us hugging them, kissing them, loading them with our burden. But we were told that lamas, if agitated, they make a clucking noise and spit so hard that it can bruise your skin. And what they spit is stomack acid so be careful do not annoy a lama. In our journey with our friend the lama to Cusco a city where past and present collide in an uneasy mix. We learnt that this mythical capital of the Inca Empire, preserves with pride its wall and battlements of stone, which evoke the greatness of the sons of the sun. Cusco is a city plentiful of historical monuments and relics and of myths and legends. Visiting Cuzco is an unforgettable experience that permits to unravel some of the mysteries of the Incas, because Cusco was the center, the navel of the Andean world. In Cusco you have a chance to marvel monuments such asa the Korikancha (Temple of the Sun), the Ajlla Wasi, the Amaru Cancha (fence of the serpent), the Kiswar Kancha, etc. with gems of the "mestizaje" (mix of the Spanish and the native) such as the Cathedral, the Church and Convent of La Merced and the Temple of San Blas. You can also see the impressive archeological remains of the citadel of Machu Picchu. Besides all this, we were lucky to coincide with one of the traditional religious rituals of the native people of Cusco, reanimating the crucifiction of Christ but in an historic pagan Incan environment. These people, as in every authentic village in Peru, wore the most colorful traditional garments we had ever seen and of course, their main income was weaving. Our day ended for the lama and us contemplating a city full of history yet to be discovered.
