Zero Gravity Flights (RUSSIA)

This is a regular day in the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Centre. And these are the new Yuri Gagarins of Russia.

They are getting ready for an everyday training. But this time they have company. A tourist group from all around the World.

And what will they do together? They are going to experience Zero Gravity….

People have always loved to watch doumentaries about astronauts in Space and how they flew from wall place to another without the need to walk. Most people think they will never get the chance to experience weightlessness the same way orbiting astronauts do. Flying through the air, with no harness, no parachute, nothing except you and the air around you is a sensation that one has to feel to believe Now it is possible to experience that . Here on earth’

An American Company ; "Space Adventures" makes that possible.
These flights are very very expensive . That is why the Russian government acepted tourists on board of this plane. This way , they an lower the expenses.

Before you get on the plane you have to sign some papers which indicate that you hold noone responsible if something happens to you… Scared? Well that is not enough. They also ask you to put on a parachute on , so that you can jump out the plane if the plane is to fall…..

After a while the airplane takes off. And the expected moment knocks the door.

Everybody starts flying

And how is Zero Gravity achieved on earth. Here is the recepie…:

The IL-76 MDK plane flies in a parabolic flight pattern to simulate weightlessness. The aircraft begins from level flight and pitches up to approximately 45 degrees nose-high and wings level.

As the airplane flies upward, passengers experience about 2X their body weight (or 2 g’s). Then, the engines are powered back and the airplane glides over the top of the arch and weightlessness begins.

Everyone inside the airplane experiences the sensation of “free-fall” in the controlled

The aircraft is then slowly pulled out of the dive, and when all people are safely on the padded floor, the maneuver is repeated. Each parabola requires a block of airspace from about 25,000 to about 35,000 feet.

Passengers obtain approximately 28—30 seconds of microgravity during each parabola. There are usually 8 to 12 parabolas in one flight.

Thirty second segments of zero-g sounds very short. However, to put it into perspective, thirty seconds is 5 times longer than the average bungee jump and about the same length of time as the average free-fall during sky diving. The only difference is you get to do it 10 times more! During the 30 second period you’ll be able to “fly” the entire length of the airplane, conduct experiments, or flip and twist like an Olympic gymnast.

Motion Sickness is a side effect .The cosmonauts do try to help you on how to avoid it. They’ll tell you to focus your eyes on a certain object and to lie down. But believe us once the motion sickness has started the best thing to do is to carry anaylon bag with you …..
