One of Thailand’s main incomes comes from pearl farms , and investors all over the world have come to realize this productive field of business.
In Thailand one of the most biggest pearl farms is located in the South Sea Island of Naka Noi . Determined to have our own pearl in the quickest way possible when compared to the naturally developed pearl, we went up to a pearl farmer and asked him to show us how to make one. Well we learned that to create the pearl, the farmers introduce a foreign object, such as a piece of tissue, or a mother-of-pearl bead (in our case), into the oyster. The automatic reaction of the oyster would be to deposit layers of nacre around the object, in order to stop it from irritating. These layers of nacre produce our pearl.
After placing the foreign bead in our oyster we bound it in the racks of the farm to let it flow in the sea. Eager to obtain our pearl on that same day, we were disappointed to hear that we must wait quite a while to harvest our pearl. In fact, so that our pearl fully develops, we should not harvest it too quickly because it would compromise the quality of the nacre.
So what did we end up with? An oyster of our own in the seas of Naka Noi , working hard to create our one and only pearl. Until then, we will have to keep on dreaming...... maybe it will be fully grown on our next visit to Thailand.
