Slowest Tortoises on earth live in Zanzibar

Imagine the biggest tortoise you’ve seen your whole life. Now multiply it by two , even three. That what the Giant Aldabra tortoise looks like.

It’s vegetarian, and as long as you carry something green in your hand, it will chase you all around like your favourite puppy at home.

These giant tortoises were brought to the Changuu Island form Aldabra in the Seychelles in the 18 th Century. A decline begun in their numbers when their pocket sized babies were started to be stolen. Thats why the Giant Aldabra tortoise Project started in 1996 by Mr. Mike and the regional manager for Africa WSPA. Before then, the tortoise were being sold by the local people to Japan, but now the project has an electric fence and there are 27 adult tortoise, 50 subadults and 200 young ones. The project is one of the biggest places which receives about 150 tourists a day and school children.

When you see these adorable and sweet creatures, you do feel an urge to take them with you, but you need to work out a lot in your gym before doing so as they weigh a number of tons.
